Did you immediately jumped into “Puss In Boots” or did you have to be convinced to take on this character?
No, I didn’t have to be convinced, because I saw Shrek and I love Shrek. And the interesting decision made here was the voice that I was going to use. They showed me a lot of paintings of the character and I saw how little he was and they wanted me to do a little voice and to wear my accent, of course, but with a very little voice and I thought “no, no, no, let’s just provide him a thick voice” Something that goes against the body that he has. It’s almost like “Puss In Boots never looks at himself in the mirror, he doesn’t know actually how he is. He doesn’t know if he’s taller or whatever, but he thinks he’s very big” So, that was comedy!— Antonio Banderas on taking the role of Puss in Boots

The Illiad is pretty cool and fun to read and interesting but also my boy homer just spent nine pages describing each platoon of Agamemnon’s army so the tastes of the people have changed a little over 3000 years.
in 2021 homer coulda stuck that in an appendix, but if he’d done that in -800 nobody’d remember it, yeah
stick around after the show for a special recitation describing each of agamemnon’s platoons! wait, where’s everyone going. come back

My favorite part about that bit is that my professor for the elective I took in college about Homer’s stories told us that the Illiad was normally read aloud in public performances rather than just spread as a book, and that bit was basically where the performers would use that bit to shout out to wherever they were performing while normally glossing over everyone else. Kinda like “And then here were these totally rad dudes from Athens! Fuck yeah, Athens! Anyway there was also a bunch of other punks who weren’t as cool.”
It was only when later historians went to permanently write it down for future generations that they just added all the different bits from all the different places it was performed into one giant, run-on scene that otherwise makes no sense now, leading to generations of bored and confused teens and college students.
Rhapsodist: You guys ever notice how the Mycenaeans row their ships like this *hand gesture*, but the Spartans row their ships like this *obscene hand gesture*
Spartan in the crowd: haha, it’s true, our naval might is severely diminished compared to other states!
Now that it’s 2021 that means anything that came out in 2001 will be 20 years old so here’s a bunch of movies that will be 20 this year
y’know what i’m gonna say it. tumblr is the superior social media site. follower counts are hidden/meaningless, there’s no way to make a profit and/or become an influencer. it’s just about looking at silly little images and making silly little comments.
